How do I use it safely?

Use a suitable holder on a heat-resistant tray. Blow out the flame after lighting. Keep the burning incense in sight, away from children, pets and anything flammable. Ventilate the room. If you need to leave, extinguish it fully. A stick burns for about 25–30 minutes.
